The Oleander Sisters

The Oleander Sisters

It’s always exciting when a pub date for new book approaches! On July 29th, The Oleander Sisters will be available in bookstores everywhere! You can get it as trade paperback, ebook or audio book.

Early reviews of this book are great, which is a HUGE relief to me. Here’s a secret. It was difficult to write a novel after having written The Sweetest Hallelujah. I ADORE that book; and readers embraced it and loved it so, I was terrified I would never be able to write one to compare. This sort of self-imposed paralysis is not new to me. After my first book (written as Peggy Webb) debuted at number one on the bestseller lists, I spent weeks agonizing that I would never be able to top that or even match it. Seventy something books later I still sometimes fall into that trap of doubt. Thankfully, I know that if I persevere, if I sit in my office chair with my hands on the computer keyboard, the characters will somehow bubble to the surface and my hands will know what to do. Then the skeptic in me will get quiet and let me go about the business of unfolding the story.

I don’t always know from the get-go how a story will unfold. My stories are usually discovered. I read voraciously on a wide variety of subjects, and every now and then some small detail will jump out at me, dance around my mind a while saying, “Look at me!” That’s how my stories are born. How they get from idea to printed page is yet another mystery to me, even after all these years. Usually I catch hold of my characters’ coattails and hang on for the ride.

And what a ride I had in The Oleander Sisters! I hope the book makes you laugh, makes you cry and keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what will happen. As I was writing, it kept me on the edge, wondering where in the world these characters would lead me next! And boy, did they lead me to some big surprises!
