It’s always exciting to see a new book published. On Tuesday, I’ll launch The Oleander Sisters at Reeds Gum Tree Bookstore in downtown Tupelo, Mississippi. The following Saturday, I’ll be at Barnes and Noble in the Barnes Crossing Mall in Tupelo for another wonderful book event.
Northeast MS Daily Journal reviewer, Leslie Criss, calls this book, “Hussey at her finest.” Wow! I’ll take that. Honestly, it was very hard to write another book after The Sweetest Hallelujah. I loved that book. Editors and reviewers loved that book. Fans loved that book. I didn’t know if I could ever find that sort of magic again.
Fortunately, my Oleander characters took over and led me through the story. They surprised me, delighted me and knocked my socks off. There is a scene during the beginning of Hurricane Camille that I think will leave you breathless.
Dear friends, I could not – and cannot – do this without you. When a book hits the bookstores, it has to vie for attention with hundreds of other new novels, thousands of beloved classics, and a vast array of other offerings. I’m asking for your help in getting the word out about The Oleander Sisters. Tell your friends, ask your local bookstores and libraries to order copies, post on Facebook and Twitter, share with Goodreads and Pintrest. Shout it out wherever you can.
I’m thrilled to tell you that I’ve been invited to join PEN America for my contribution to the literary community. This prestigious organization includes such stellar authors as Toni Morrison and boasts past presidents in memoriam Robert Frost, Norman Mailer and Arthur Miller. I am humbled and honored. I feel as if I’ve joined the ranks of Mississippi icons such as William Faulkner. (See the photo of me with his statue in Oxford.) Within the next few weeks, you’ll see my author profile on PEN’s website. Till then, lift a glass of sweet tea with me!
To celebrate all this good news, I’m giving away two audio copies of The Oleander Sisters with signed covers. All you have to do is leave a comment here. Winners will be announced on this blog next Monday, August 4th. Check back here. Till then, happy reading!
